Urban Life Outreach- 7/7/26
Today, we invited the Urban Life Summer Camp students to our lab for a Team Inspiration Lab tour. They had the chance to remote control a boat, a sub, and build a seaperch robot. In addition to that, the Urban Life students learned about the different robots we have at our lab (RoboSub, RoboBoat, Wam-V, MonkeyBot, Drone).
The students enjoyed hearing about the many aspects of robotics. They took the initiative in asking a multitude of interesting questions, such as how fast the go-cart could drive or what the purpose of different cameras was. Additionally, many of the students asked if they could build the monkey bot during the session and how much longer until we built the LEGO Mindstorms. Overall, the students were extremely engaged and enthusiastic about the prospect of robotics. Thus, the outreach’s purpose was fulfilled.
Some ideas for further improvement include allocating additional time for sea perches and creating smoother transitions between stations, which could be accomplished by better preparation. However, while having fun, the students learned many new concepts and left the Team Inspiration lab with a taste of the world of engineering.
